The XX World Youth Day in brief

The Pope is inviting young people of the world to come to Germany and attend the 20th World Youth Day from 11 to 21 August 2005. The motto of this World Youth Day is taken from the Gospel according to Matthew: “We have come to worship Him.” After spending several Days of Encounter in dioceses all over Germany (11 to 15 August 2005), our international guests will gather with their hosts for the central events in the Archdiocese of Cologne. The Pope will appear in person at this festival of faith and encounter. With him will be an expected 800,000 young people aged between 16 and 30, 600 bishops and 4,000 journalists from all over the world. The local organization and implementation of World Youth Day is the responsibility of Weltjugendtag gGmbH in Cologne.

The press spokesman of World Youth Day – Matthias Kopp – will be pleased to assist you with any questions and to arrange interviews. You can reach him at presse@wjt2005.de
